This week Jon Vanstone, Chair of Certass, says whilst he welcomes the CLC’s ‘Roadmap to Recovery’ plan for construction, it’s a “blunt reminder that the issues that the industry was facing before the COVID-19 pandemic have not gone away”, plus he says Certass will be working closely on the BEIS-backed TrustMark campaign to create better relationships between consumers and installers, as “consumer confidence and installer confidence on working safely in the home is currently nowhere near 100%.”
Roadmap to Recovery
This week (June 1st), the Construction Leadership Council released its ‘Roadmap to Recovery’ plan for the UK construction sector. As an industry, construction is well placed to drive forward the economy, and though the home improvement/RMI sector has very different challenges to other areas of construction, we are supportive of the details in this plan and look forward to engaging to aid success.
‘Restart, Reset, Reinvent’ is the three-phase pan of action, with the reinvent phase planned to start in around a year’s time. The idea is to ‘transform the industry, deliver better value, collaboration and partnership’.
What does this mean for glazing?
This recovery plan is a blunt reminder that the issues that the industry was facing before the COVID-19 pandemic have not gone away and there is a lot of work to be done. There are big changes coming in 2021 around Building Regulations and competency.
It is also a good opportunity to say that the BEIS-backed TrustMark campaign is launching soon and we will be working closely with them going forward, to create better relationships between consumers and installers.
From our conversations with members we understand that there is some work to be done on getting installers back to their usual levels of working. Consumer confidence and installer confidence on working safely in the home is currently nowhere near 100%.
With that in mind, we are running a Q&A session on Wednesday 10th June for our members. Via our Facebook forum, you can book a 20-minute slot with one of our team to talk about any concerns created by the pressures of COVID-19.
Jon and the Certass team are sharing the latest, relevant Government information for installers on the Certass TA Members Forum on Facebook. The team can also take your queries and questions direct to Government if an answer can’t be found – join the conversation now!
